    On 3-6 June, WoodFungi 2018 was held in Belgium, the first conference on the cultivation of lignicolous mushrooms in Europe. The event offered interesting lectures, panel discussions, company visits, a nice partner programme and plenty of networking time for some 200 participants from all over the world. All this in the historic city of Ghent. Mycelia and SacO2 did a splendid job organising this event, that was prompted by the 10-year anniversary of the merger of their companies.

    Takeover Dalsem Mushroom Projects

    Investors Strong Root Capital, in cooperation with CommonWealth Investments, have acquired all the shares in Dalsem Mushroom Projects (DMP) from the Dalsem Group and became the new owner of this leading supplier to the international mushroom industry with effect on 1 January 2018. DMP is based in Horst, the Netherlands. Parallel to this development, Ron Hegger will take over the role of Managing Director from Jan Berings, who will remain associated with the company as Commercial Director.

    Dutch Pieczarkalia 2017

    Once every year the city of Siedlce in the east of Poland becomes the heart of the Polish mushroom industry and hosts suppliers, growers and visitors all interested in the further development of this still very prosperous sector in Poland. This year, on 7 and 8 September, the exhibition - despite rainy and windy weather - featured 60 companies from both Poland and abroad and was inspired by the Netherlands as one of the countries Poland learned most from during ist mushroom growing history.

    A selection of a Dutch studyclub of Mushroom Office recently visited Ireland. For two days, the young mushroom growers toured the Green Island. The group was welcomed by companies Custom Compost, Codd Mushrooms, Monaghan and McDon Peat (see photo). The guys were impressed by quality and production of the Irish growers. "I'd rather had seen differently, I would have slept better after", joked one of the Dutch growers.

    The chic, historic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac hotel in Quebec formed the epicentre of mushroom growing from 21-23 June. The biennial North American Mushroom Conference was visited by some 300 growers, suppliers and researchers from all over the world. There were two days of lecture sessions, and an expo of around 30 exhibitors, knitted together by lunches and network opportunities.

    Dutch Mushroom Days 2019

    The board of the Mushroomdays Foundation announced on 30 December that the next edition of the largest global mushroom tradeshow ‘The Mushroom Days’ in The Netherlands, will be held on 22-23-24 May 2019. The location for it remains ‘The Brabanthallen’ in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

    Spawn producer Sylvan held a workshop for modern mushroom farm growers in Hungary at the end of October.

    The topic ‘How to maximise the yield of Sylvan A15 by measuring evaporation’ was presented to 18 participants from Hungary and Romania by well known mushroom growing consultant Harry Hesen from Sylvan Holland.

    Hesen: “Measuring evaporation and the vapour in the growing room is a good tool to overview the energy discharge during mushroom production and the measurements can help improve the yield and mushroom quality.”

    While in Korea the Dutch Prime Minister Rutte of the Netherlands was offered the book Mushroom Signals by a representative of PETC+. The Dutch Prime Minister was in Korea from 26-28 September on a trade mission. Meanwhile Mark den Ouden, author of Mushroom Signals, was training Korean mushroom growers at the KNCAF University commissioned by PETC+.javascript:void(0);

    2016 sees the return of a charity bike ride before the start of the Australian Mushroom Growers’ Conference.

    The ride departs from Vineyard in Sydney on 6 October, arriving in Mildura on the 12th in time for the AMGA Conference. This time, the Great Ride includes The Great Ocean Road and the Great Alpine Way. Just like on the first edition (in 2010) riders raise money along the way, this time for the McGrath Foundation.

    On Monday, September 12th, Upcycling Gemert, established at the mushroom farm of the Van den Boomen family, was officially opened by the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp.
