During the Welcome Event of the 35th Dutch Mushroom Days in Den Bosch, on 22 May, five new Ambassador of the Mushroom Industry Awards were presented.
The traditional welcome party at the Brabanthallen on the first day of the fair, was opened by Piet Lempens, chairman of the Mushroom Days committee. He introduced guest speaker Loek Hermans, who spoke of the great opportunities and ambitions of the mushroom industry regarding health and the circular economy.
The 35th edition of the Dutch Mushroom Days in Den Bosch was a great success, and is considered by many as one of the best ever. The international tradeshow for the mushroom industry worldwide was held from 22 to 24 May in the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch and had the same setup as last few editions. Some improvements were made (free catering and parking, a lounge corner).
On Tuesday, 21 May, the new spawn facility of Lambert Spawn Europa was officially opened in Venlo, The Netherlands. During the festivities at the Grand Opening, the 100th Anniversary of Lambert was also celebrated.
Dalsem Mushroom Projects changes its name into Dutch Mushroom Projects, short DMP. According to managing director Ron Hegger, the name change is part of a bigger plan to reposition the company in the changing mushroom market.
“As before, DMP has a global business approach and a strong focus to turn-key projects. High quality products and services will remain our key drivers for your success. Therefore the change will have no impact on our worldwide customers. We look forward to your long lasting cooperation.”
On Friday 14 December at approximately 2:30 pm, a fire started in one of the Champi’Mer factories in Kesteren, The Netherlands. Within a very short time, the 2017 opened factory was fully ablaze. The new factory is completely destroyed, at this time the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
On 3-6 June, WoodFungi 2018 was held in Belgium, the first conference on the cultivation of lignicolous mushrooms in Europe. The event offered interesting lectures, panel discussions, company visits, a nice partner programme and plenty of networking time for some 200 participants from all over the world. All this in the historic city of Ghent. Mycelia and SacO2 did a splendid job organising this event, that was prompted by the 10-year anniversary of the merger of their companies.
Investors Strong Root Capital, in cooperation with CommonWealth Investments, have acquired all the shares in Dalsem Mushroom Projects (DMP) from the Dalsem Group and became the new owner of this leading supplier to the international mushroom industry with effect on 1 January 2018. DMP is based in Horst, the Netherlands. Parallel to this development, Ron Hegger will take over the role of Managing Director from Jan Berings, who will remain associated with the company as Commercial Director.
Once every year the city of Siedlce in the east of Poland becomes the heart of the Polish mushroom industry and hosts suppliers, growers and visitors all interested in the further development of this still very prosperous sector in Poland. This year, on 7 and 8 September, the exhibition - despite rainy and windy weather - featured 60 companies from both Poland and abroad and was inspired by the Netherlands as one of the countries Poland learned most from during ist mushroom growing history.
