According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture about 809 million pounds (367,73 million kilograms) of U.S. grown mushrooms were sold in the USA in the 2007-2008 season. This is 2% fewer than in 2006-2007 and 4% fewer than in 2005-2006.
The 17th conference of the ISMS went without a hitch in the fabulously vibrant city of Cape Town, South Africa. Although the location is virtually at the end of the world, the conference was very well attended with 338 delegates and more than 50 guests, from a record 38 countries.
Martmari van Greuning, secretary of the International Society for Mushroom Science (ISMS) has informed the international mushroom industry that electronic procedures of the 2008 Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, are now available on CD.
Champinter is a mushroom cooperative with 150 growers in Villamalea (120 kilometres west of Valencia), which specialises in the fresh market. It supplies casing soil and compost to the mushroom and oyster mushroom growers in this region, and the growers take the mushrooms back to Champinter, which often also arranges the marketing of the product.
