Pieczarkalia in Siedlce

  • The most important event of the Polish Mushroom industry, was held for two days in Siedlce, eastern Poland, starting on 20th September. It offered a good trade fair, lectures, discussion and.. soccer. A report on this event can be found in Mushroom Business 55 / Wydanie Polskie 23 (November 2012).

    A nice tradition at Pieczarkalia is the football competition in the evening, organized for workers and representatives of the branch.

    Participants could take part in a discussion panel regarding the chances and risks ahead for the Polish mushroom industry. The discussion was opened en led by dr Nikodem Sakson. Among the discussion participants were representatives of growers, composters, processing plants.
    Outside, visitors could try some mushroom specialties served as part of the Cooking Festival “Taste of Mushroom”.

    Emiel Lacet (l) of Christiaens Group, talking with Tadeusz Raginiak of Champion. The fair had some 60 stands, most of which were from Polish companies. Some Dutch (Christiaens, Dofra, Dalsem) companies were represented though.
    Piezarkalia offered two lectures. The first was done by mushroom consultant Thei Staaks (Mushroom Advice Network) on compost quality. The second one, given by Maciej Grzeszek, focused on air movement.
    The event was opened by a host of dignitaries, who stressed the expanding tendency of the branch and the growing position of Poland on the European mushroom market.

    This time the trade show and conference in the east of Poland, organized by Wokas company, was housed in a leisure facility for ice-skating in Siedlce. A bit windy and cold, according to some.
