    In the village of Marum, Netherlands, a lot of work has been done in the past year to get the new, innovative farm of Bertus Baron going. Together with Limbraco Horst he developed a vision and implemented that into his new farm. The farm itself is in production since July, the logistic part of the transport of mushrooms has to start up in the coming weeks.

    At the AMGA 2009 Conference Topterra will present Legro Australia Ltd to the Australian mushroom industry. The Australian company was established in Melbourne and will serve Australian growers with Topterra casing, MC Substradd supplements and Spaghnum blond peat.

    A few more mushrooms were sold in the U.S. this season, but because prices were slightly down, the value of those sales was lower. Production of the 2008/2009 U.S. mushroom crop of 817 million pounds (371 million kilograms) was up 1% from 2007/2008’s 813 million pounds (370 million kilograms), according to the annual mushroom report released Aug. 20 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. But because the price-per-pound of $1.17 was a penny lower than last season, the total value of the crop, $957 million, was about $5.5 million less than a year ago.

    The first mushroom harvesters in Europe to complete a unique work based training programme were presented with their certificates recently.   The presentation took place in Days Hotel, Castlebar, Republic of Ireland on Monday 6th July when a group of 26 harvesters were presented with FETAC Certificates.
