The congress is a regular forum for the world's mushroom researchers to exchange results and development activities across all segments of the industry and promote international communication and cooperation.
Being the top international conference for the mushroom research community and the industry at large, seventeen congresses have been held in different countries since its launch in 1950 (Peterborough). The participants have been expanded from dozens of people at the first Congress of the ISMS to 600 at the highly succesfull 17th in Cape Town, South Africa in 2008.
ISMS 2012 is hosted by the International Society for Mushroom Science (ISMS), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), China Edible Fungi Association (CEFA), China Chamber of Commerce (CFNA), and will be organized by the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IARRP, CAAS).

August 27, 2012: Opening Ceremony, Keynote speeches, Forum, Welcome Reception.
August 28, 2012: Forum.
August 29, 2012: Farm and factory visit, cooking show, sightseeing tour in Tongzhou District.
August 30, 2012: Forum, Closing Ceremony.
Key note speakers include: Prof. Yu Li, China - Present development situation and tendency of edible mushroom industry in China; Dr. Anton Sonnenberg, The Netherlands - Breeding for the future: New technologies and new targets; Dr. Ian Hall - New Zealand - The cultivation of mycorrhizal mushrooms - still the next frontier; Dr. Shiuan Chen, USA - Protective Effects of Agaricus Bisporus Against Cancer and Metabolic Diseases.
The main topics will consist of germplasm diversity, biochemistry and molecular biology, genetics and breeding, disease, pest and quality control, marketing management, nutritional and medicinal aspects, technology of cultivation and spawn-making, and mycorrhizal mushroom.
Apart from the scientific exchange, ISMS 2012 will also showcase new varieties, new products, new technologies and latest publications.
During the scientific congress, there will be an Exhibition in the Beijing International Convention Center, near the Conference Hall. The fair, which showcases the products and services of suppliers and organizations in some 70 booths, is fully booked. The exhibition is a good platform to see new trends in innovation, gain inspiration and ideas, meet Chinese and international customers and make new business contacts.
The 18th ISMS Congress will be held at Beijing International Convention Center (BICC), which is located close to the main venue of the 2008 Olympic Games and has easy access to the historical city center, the international airport and the Great Wall. Crowne Plaza Beijing Parkview Wuzhou (5 stars) and Beijing Continental Grand Hotel (4 stars) are located next to the BICC. The Continental even has a walkway directly connecting the hotel with the Congress center.
Beijing, the capital city of the People’s Republic of China, has a population of 17.5 Million and has an extremely rich historical and cultural heritage such as the “Beijing opera”, and many places of historic interest like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and many more. The city is also China’s political, economic, cultural and educational center. ISMS 2012 gives you a chance to discover Beijing!
Online registration for the congress and exhibition is possible until halfway in August. It costs 800 American dollars for a Full Participant and 400 dollars for a student. Registration after July 25th sets you back 50 dollars more.
As a participant you are entitled entrance to the event, lunches and dinners, refreshments in breaks, the opening ceremony and welcome reception, a congress bag and registration pack, the congress proceedings and farm visits.
