John Garlick dies at the age of 57

John Garlick, head of sales for Amycel UK Ltd, has suddenly died of a heart attack. John Kidder, vice-president for Amycel International, gives his reaction.

“John came into the mushroom industry by way of Rumenco Ltd working for their animal feeds group. He then moved over to ADCO, which was a subsidiary of Rumenco to supply the mushroom industry with spawn and supplements. John joined Amycel in December 1993, when Amycel acquired ADCO after which, John became our UK Manager with responsibility for sales in England and Ireland.
John was well known and liked throughout the UK and Irish markets as well as Western Europe.  He will be sorely missed by the industry as well as his co-workers and friends. He is also survived by his wife, Deborah and their three sons, Jonathan, Howard, and Daniel.
John was truly one of those people that lived life to the fullest.  In his earlier years he was an accomplished motorcycle racer and still loved the thrill of a fast ride and was a keen follower of the TT Races.  Every year John and his brother would take an extended ride through Ireland braving the weather and traffic police.
This past year, in addition to his biking adventures he also completed a walking trek across the Staffordshire Way with a group of friends.  More recently he tried his hand at fly fishing on local waters.  John loved a challenge and would try his hand at anything from restoring old cars to helping out with the local children’s sports teams.
At this difficult time, all our thoughts are with his wife, Deborah and family and feel sure he will be missed by everyone in the industry.”

Mushroom Business would also like to express sympathy with the family and everyone at Amycel.

John was a lovely chap always ready with a chuckle. We didn't speak much recently, being a buyer rather than grower of mushrooms, but he is fondly remembered by the Dumbreck family in Scotland
